Inside Gujarat’s SEOC: Coordinating Lifesaving Efforts Across the State

Jul 24, 2025

Gandhinagar (Gujarat), July 24 (ANI): 2001 Bhuj earthquake marked a major shift in Gujarat’s disaster management approach. In response, the Gujarat State Disaster Management Act was enacted in 2003 under CM Narendra Modi, leading to the formation of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA). Nationally, it prompted the creation of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in 2006. A key outcome in Gujarat was the establishment of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar. The SEOC functions as a central hub for monitoring disasters, coordinating response teams, making policy decisions, issuing alerts, and deploying resources. Supported by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), it conducts regular mock drills to maintain readiness. Together, SEOC and SDRF ensure swift, coordinated action during any emergency to protect lives and communities.
