J-K: Department of Handicraft organises Craft Safari Tour to promote Kashmiri art

Srinagar, May 05 (ANI): A Craft Safari Tour was organised to promote Kashmiri art and uplift the artisan community in Jammu and Kashmir. It was organised by the Department of Handicraft at the historical shrine of Hazrat Amir-e-Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, located at Khanqah Moula in Srinagar. During this craft safari, the Director of Handicraft, along with other officials attended many workshops. The artisan community did their daily craftwork like wood carving, crewel working, chain stitches and embroidery units. The unique and amazing handworks of artisans are famous across the globe and have a good international market. But artisan community faces a lot of hardships due to insurgency and a disturbing atmosphere in the last thirty years. Craft Safari Tour was organised with an aim to revive the old age craft. Recently, Srinagar city made entry into United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) list. The artisan community lauded the step made by the department of handicraft and hoped to promote the Kashmiri art in future.
