J&K: Demand for dates soar during Ramzan despite high rates

Srinagar, April 12 (ANI): People are buying dates in large quantities despite high rates during the holy month of Ramzan in Kashmir valley. The demand for dates has soared during Ramzan. People break the fast with dates during Iftar. They have a belief that three pieces of dates along with milk or water is enough to refresh the whole body. The holy month of Ramzan began on April 3 this year. These dates come from different countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia and Pakistan. But among all the varieties, people like some particular variety of dates like Ajwa, Amber and Mabroom which come from Saudi Arabia. They cost up to Rs 2,000 per kg.
