Sep 06, 2023

Baramulla (J&K), Sept 06 (ANI): Non-governmental organisation ‘Conserve India’ recently launched a plastic recycling centre at Indian Army’s Chinar 9 Jawan Club, a reputed Skill Development Centre in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. It has been initiated by the Indian Army along with support from the Municipal Council of Baramulla to empower youth and provide green livelihood opportunities. The purpose of the project was to solve the plastic pollution problem that has plagued the valley of Kashmir. It also created a community-level social impact on surrounding communities through ‘Specialised Workshops on Social and Environmental Issues’. Swachhagrahis (community workers) have been trained in the collection, sorting and cleaning of plastic waste. The waste has been converted into fabric to create high-fashion accessories and home decor products. Products which are created under the project will be retailed by the youth group under their own brand ‘Posh Bags’.
