J&K: SKIMS nurse bags Florence Nightingale Award from President of India

Srinagar, June 25 (ANI): In a moment of great pride for the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, a staff nurse, Firdousa Jan, was honoured with the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award-2023. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented her award during a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 22. Hailing from the Charar-e-Sharief area of Budgam district and currently residing in Srinagar, Firdousa has dedicated over two decades of her life to nursing. Currently pursuing a PhD, Firdousa has been appointed as a tutor for one year at the College of Nursing in SKIMS Soura. Firdousa was recognized with the award for her exceptional contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, post-pandemic work in slum areas, support for the underprivileged section of society, and raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and mental health issues. The National Florence Nightingale Award was established in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, to acknowledge the commendable services rendered by nurses and nursing professionals to society
