Kham River: A Model of Revival Through Public Participation
Feb 20, 2026
Flowing through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, the Kham River originates in the Harsul region and eventually merges with the Godavari River. Once struggling with pollution and encroachments, the river’s condition had severely deteriorated. Launched in 2021, the “Kham River Restoration Mission” transformed its fate. Through a collaborative effort involving the local municipal corporation, the Aurangabad Cantonment Board, industries, environmental organizations, and the community, concrete steps were taken toward pollution control, improved sewage management, and riverfront development.
