Kolkata-Biratnagar railway cargo to ease business between Nepal and India: Nepal's Foreign Ministry

Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said the newly launched Kolkata–Biratnagar rail cargo service will significantly boost trade and ease the movement of goods between India and Nepal. Speaking at a press briefing, Joint Secretary Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said the service, operating under the Nepal–India Transit Treaty, will reduce transportation costs, cut transit time and provide a safer and more reliable logistics network. Officials believe it will lower delay and container detention charges while enhancing the competitiveness of Nepali industries. The service, which began on July 17, marks the first direct rail cargo link to Biratnagar, further strengthening bilateral trade connectivity and facilitating Nepal's third-country imports through Indian ports.
