Lobsang Sangay warns democracies against ‘Overreacting’ To U.S. politics and moving closer to China

Former Tibetan Prime Minister-in-Exile Lobsang Sangay said there is a tendency in Europe and parts of Asia to “overreact” to political changes in the United States, especially during Donald Trump’s presidency, and cautioned democracies against moving closer to China as a counterbalance. He said the American political system remains stable because of its institutional checks and balances, noting that U.S. presidents often face restrictions after midterm elections. Sangay stressed that despite political differences, the broader trajectory of American foreign policy toward allies such as India generally stabilises over time.
