Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), June 26 ANI: State-of-the-art sewage treatment plants (STPs) have been set up in Rishikesh and Muni ki Reti area to clean the Ganga under the Namami Gange Mission. Two STPs of 26 MLD (Lakkadghat) and 7.5 MLD capacity are operational to treat an average of 20 MLD sewage generated daily in Rishikesh. The STP at Lakkadghat is based on modern SBR technology, which purifies dirty water in a phased process. The 5 MLD STP located at Chorpani area of Muni ki Reti is equipped with MBBR technology, which successfully treats 3.5 MLD sewage per day and releases it into the Chandrabhaga river. Both STPs have labs and real-time online monitoring systems, which continuously check water quality and provide data to central/state agencies. Namami Gange Mission is a meaningful and visionary initiative towards maintaining the purity and uninterrupted flow of Ganga.
