Nepal activates emergency response as heavy rainfall warning issued across country

Nepal has activated disaster response mechanisms following a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall across several parts of the country. A low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rain until September 27.Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs has urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid non-essential travel and stay away from disaster-prone areas during the forecast period. Authorities have also advised people to rely on official updates from the Nepal Meteorological Department, National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority and other government agencies.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in parts of Gandaki and Lumbini, with rain also expected across several other provinces. Authorities have warned of possible floods, landslides, soil erosion, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
