Nepal-India Border closed for 72 Hours ahead of Bihar Polls

Nov 09, 2025

The Nepal-India border has been sealed for 72 hours starting Saturday evening, ahead of the second phase of the Bihar elections scheduled for November 11. Border points in several districts, including Sarlahi, Mahottari, and Rautahat, have been closed as part of heightened security measures. In Mahottari district alone, authorities have shut down 11 border crossings to prevent any untoward incidents. Local administrations have issued a high alert, suspending all cross-border movement except for emergencies. Sealing the border during elections has become a standard security protocol, with personnel from both countries coordinating to maintain peace and order.
