Nepal: KP Sharma Oli addresses Party Convention after Gen-Z uprising

Dec 14, 2025

Bhaktapur (Nepal), Dec 14 (ANI): Former Nepali Prime Minister and Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), K.P. Sharma Oli, has called for the restoration of the dissolved parliament while addressing the opening session of the party’s 11th General Convention. This is the party’s first convention since the Gen-Z uprising in September that forced Oli to resign and led to a regime change in Nepal. Criticising the current government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Oli termed the recent understanding between the Gen-Z movement and the government a “high-voltage drama.” He also claimed he was being politically targeted for his party’s positions. The convention, attended by 2,262 representatives, will continue until December 15, with leadership elections beginning Sunday in Kathmandu.
