Kathmandu (Nepal), August 07 (ANI): Record-holding Nepali mountaineer Pur Bahadur Gurung, popularly known as "Yukta," who was killed during an expedition on Pakistan's 8,047-metre Broad Peak, was laid to rest with honors in Kathmandu on Friday. The cremation was held at Swayambhu in the presence of his family, relatives, Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa, members of the mountaineering community and well-wishers. Traditional funeral rituals were performed by Shamans after a ceremonial circumambulation of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Swoyambhunath Stupa. Gurung was the first of the five Nepali climbers who died in the Broad Peak avalanche to be brought back to Nepal. His body arrived in Kathmandu on August 6 after being flown from Pakistan via Qatar. Beyond Everest, he climbed 12 of the world's 14 mountains above 8,000 metres, including a remarkable 24-hour ascent of K2 in Pakistan. Earlier this year, he also earned the prestigious International Mountain Guide certification through the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association.
