Red alert in parts of Nepal as incessant rain triggers landslides, disrupts highways

Kathmandu [Nepal], September 27 (ANI): Nepal has issued a red alert for parts of the country as incessant rainfall triggers landslides, floods and travel disruptions. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a five-day warning, urging people and authorities to remain cautious. In Kathmandu, the Bagmati River has swollen and breached its embankments after more than 36 hours of rain. Public transport to and from the capital has been suspended after landslides disrupted major highways, leaving passengers stranded. Police said light vehicles continue to operate through the Pharping route. Parts of Bagmati, Madhesh and central Nepal remain under monitoring. Weather conditions are expected to improve across most of the country from Monday, while some northwestern districts of Sudurpaschim remain under alert.
