Sindhis hold anti-Pak demonstration, demand global intervention into atrocities against them

Geneva (Switzerland), March 17 (ANI): Shouting anti-Pakistan slogans and urging Pakistani authorities to stop the systematic ethnic cleansing of minorities in Pakistan…scores of Sindhi activists gathered outside the United Nations Human Rights Council on the sidelines of the 49th regular session of the global body. The demonstration was staged to have the attention of the global community towards the Sindhi issue which the activists said was deteriorating by the day. Activists urged the international community to intervene against the flagrant violations of human rights in Sindh province of Pakistan where both the state’s direct crackdown and its complicity in Islamic radicals’ attacks on all aspects of their lives had pushed them to the edge. Testimonies of Sindhis say that the situation has grown so gruesome that security forces abduct people in broad daylight, sometimes dressed in plainclothes and other times in official vehicles and uniforms. They are able to act with impunity because the government refuses to take any action on allegations of enforced disappearance and has not once brought a perpetrator to justice. There have been around 1,300 known cases of enforced disappearance in Pakistan’s Sindh province alone since 2010.
