New Delhi, Mar 24 2025 (ANI): India’s drug regulator tightened surveillance against unauthorized sale and promotion of weight-loss drugs. The decision comes following local drugmakers launching a wave of generic, cheaper versions of Novo Nordisk's NOVOb.CO blockbuster drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. The regulator conducted inspections at 49 entities, including drug wholesalers, retailers, and slimming clinics, in recent weeks. The inspection was done to launch clamp down on the unauthorized sale and use of weight-loss drugs, according to health ministry statement. Dr Nikhil Tandon, Delhi AIIMS professor and HOD of Dept of Endocrinology & Metabolism discussed the tightening of surveillance against unauthorized weight-loss drug sales with ANI.
