UKPNP Representatives Raise PoJK Concerns at Geneva Conference, Allege Crackdown and Rights Violations

Description: - Geneva, Switzerland, 25 September, 2026: The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) organised a protest outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva against Pakistan’s policies in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The demonstration was held at the Broken Chair on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council. Kashmiri activists raised concerns over what they described as political restrictions, repression and violations of basic rights in PoJK. Protesters also highlighted the June 5 firing on demonstrators and called for an impartial investigation and accountability. The UKPNP also organised a conference in Geneva on extremism, particularly concerning Pakistan, as well as issues related to freedom and self-determination in the Islamic Republic. UKPNP Europe Zone President Sardar Amjad Yousaf alleged killings and forced disappearances in PoJK, while acknowledging that definite figures were not available. UKPNP member Usman Kiani said the ongoing movement was linked to the Joint Awami Action Committee's demands and alleged that an earlier agreement on those demands had not been implemented. He also raised concerns over arrests, disappearances and the recent election, alleging that the polls were widely boycotted. The UKPNP representatives said they raised these concerns in Geneva during the 63rd UN session and called for international attention to the situation in PoJK.
