Unique initiative of ‘Give Plastic, Take Gold’ a runaway hit in Kashmir

Anantnag (J&K), April 04 (ANI): Sadiwara, a far-flung village in Hiller Shahabad block of Anantnag in South Kashmir has come up with a unique initiative for saving the environment. They have started a campaign called ‘Give Plastic and Take Gold’, in which they are offering a gold coin for collecting plastic waste. Under the scheme, if someone gives plastic waste of 20 quintals, then the Panchayat will give him a gold coin on behalf of that plastic. Farooq Ahmad Ganai, Sarpanch of the village, has become an inspiration for everyone in Kashmir valley. After the start of the campaign, the villages were declared plastic free within 15 days. This campaign has gained a lot of popularity and has been appreciated and adopted by other Panchayats too.
