Katra (J&K), Oct 04 (ANI): A wrestling competition ‘Mission Dosti Maha Dangal’ was organised in J&K’s Katra on October 03. This competition was held as a part of nine-day-long Navratri festival. The first Kashmiri woman grappler, Nahida Nabi, also participated in the competition. She had to face a lot of criticism and Nahida worked hard to become a professional wrestler in an atmosphere where girls playing sports is a taboo. While speaking to ANI, Nahida said, “If government makes adjustments for me, I can coach a team which can participate in events. Girls here don’t know value of sports.” “I am appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘Beti padhao, Beti Bachao, beti ko badhao, aur beti ko pehelwan banao'. I appeal the youth to come in sports,” Nahida added. She urged the parents to educate their daughters and make them wrestlers. Hailing from Baramulla district of J&K, Nahida also thanked her parents for their unflinching support throughout her ‘not so smooth’ journey. Nahida is wrestling for the past four years and played her first national in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda.
