“Warfare changing…” Former Army Chief Naravane on evolving nature of modern warfare

Aug 21, 2026

Pune (Maharashtra), August 21, 2026 (ANI): Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane (Retd) says, "Warfare has always been changing; the character of war has never been constant. If you see history, we used to fight with fists or clubs, then came swords and lances, then came muskets, then came machine gun and then you had aircraft and airpower, then you had rockets. So, this has always been changing and militaries have always adapted to that change. We have always been at the forefront of absorbing these new technologies. So, in the same way, we will also absorb the technologies of drone warfare, cyber warfare, and incorporate them into our future tactics and doctrine. We will never be found wanting. That is the main lesson which is drawn from all the conflicts which are happening in the world. Draw the lessons from that and incorporate them into your own army before the next war starts. During the next war, you should not be fighting the last war, you will be fighting the present one."
