Srinagar (J&K), September 09 (ANI): A wheelchair cricket match was recently organised in Srinagar by the Wheelchair Cricket Association, in association with the White Globe NGO and the Indian Army. The match saw the participation of the wheelchair-bound players who demonstrated their cricketing abilities with great enthusiasm and determination. The Wheelchair Cricket Association facilitated the availability of appropriate equipment and infrastructure, and also provided coaching and training to the players. The event received significant support and appreciation from the local community. “It is for the first time that a wheelchair cricket match is being organised in Srinagar. It has given us a good platform to showcase our talent. Before this, disabled people like us, would just sit at home and let our talents go waste. Now, for this, we can show and use our talent for good. It boosts our game and our confidence,” said Altaf Hussian, a player. “Usually, disabled people sit at home and be depressed all the time. Sports like this, make us feel confident. This boosts a person’s stability and physical condition. Co-curricular activities like this are helpful for any person, especially for us, who just sit at home. It gets people out of depression. People now, can play better than before,” said Waseem Feroz, President of Wheelchair Cricket Association. “The motive is to work for specially-abled children. This match is organised so that the people in wheelchairs can get better recognition. This is an encouragement for them. We are always there for our people, for our society, and for our youth,” said Sheikh Saba, the organiser.
