Balochistan [Pakistan], July 11 : Fresh allegations of enforced disappearances and custodial abuse have emerged from Balochistan, with three men reportedly taken into custody in separate incidents while another detainee is alleged to have died shortly after being released, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
According to The Balochistan Post, two businessmen from the Naal area of Khuzdar district were allegedly detained by personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC). The missing men have been identified as 37-year-old Abdul Wahid, son of Nisar Mohammad, and Shaukat, son of Hussain.
Family members said the two were picked up separately at around 8:30 am before being moved to undisclosed locations. Relatives claim they have received no official information regarding their whereabouts since the detentions. In another reported case, 24-year-old Anas Deedag, son of Ishaq and a resident of Jiwani in Gwadar district, was allegedly taken away during a late-night raid.
The family alleged that personnel believed to be from the Pakistan Army and Military Intelligence entered their home around 1 am and detained him before shifting him to an unknown location. His relatives say authorities have yet to disclose his location or legal status.
Separately, the family of Riaz Bugti from Dera Bugti has alleged that he died at a private hospital in Karachi after being released from detention. They claimed he had been arrested during a June 12 raid carried out by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel and was subjected to severe torture while in custody. The family further alleged that officials demanded money during his detention before his eventual release, as highlighted by The Balochistan Post.
Residents also accused CTD personnel of conducting raids targeting political opponents of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Some detainees were allegedly released after payments were made, while others are still believed to be in custody, raising fears over their safety, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
