Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 3 : Mocking the BJP's loss in the Bankipur bypoll, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday that "those who arrogantly thought they could make God dance have instead been made to dance to his tune."
His jab referenced a rally for BJP chief Nitin Nabin that featured a man who was reportedly dressed as Lord Hanuman.
"God has made those who arrogantly thought they could make Him dance, dance to His tune instead. Those who considered themselves above God have been unceremoniously thrown off a moving train by God Himself, along with the fever of their hubris," he said on X.

Akhilesh Yadav described the defeat as the combined result of the unity of the youth and the outrage of their guardians, listing out what he called the reasons behind the anger.
He listed "vote theft, paper theft, donation-offering-contribution theft, job theft, reservation theft, commission corruption, tyranny on PDA, rampant corruption, the sting of inflation, government sanctioning of adulteration, insult to mothers and daughters, assaults on the country's gen z in every way", arguing that through all of these, the "BJP had betrayed the trust and faith of the people."
The SP chief indicated that this loss will lead to infighting within the BJP. "Now, even the BJP folks will demand the resignation of their own 'someone,' because how can the boat cross if it relies on those who lost their own assembly seats. In truth, this defeat belongs to those who chose them or, one might say, imposed them on the organisation at their whim. Now, no one can even claim that 'resignations don't happen in the BJP," he said, referring to the recent resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as the Union Education Minister.
Yadav said leaders in Uttar Pradesh who were denied a national-level post and given a state-level one instead because they belonged to the PDA community would be most elated at the results.
"The happiest of all are 'those' in UP, who, because they belong to the 'PDA' community, were deliberately denied a national-level post and given a state-level one instead. Today, they're even smiling and asking: '5 big or 7?' Anyway, the public is also saying that if the national president couldn't win an assembly seat, then the state president won't even be able to get one contested," he said, terming it a "double defeat of the double-engine government."
He further wrote that the BJP's defeat marks the beginning of change. "Even the BJP's safest and most traditional seats won't be able to save them from defeat now. The BJP's crisis will go beyond mere defeat--it will be about not finding even a ticket-seeker with a 'drone and binoculars," he said.
Ending on a high note, Yadav congratulated the winning candidates. "Congratulations to all victorious candidates on their win, and the expectation that they remain vigilant, alert, and committed to the Constitution to live up to new hopes," he said.
The reaction comes after Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar in the Bankipur assembly bypoll, a result marking an end to BJP's dominance in what had long been considered one of its safest strongholds since 30-years.
