New Delhi [India], October 6 : Ahead of the forthcoming 2027 assembly polls, Congress is set to kickstart a statewide campaign in Punjab soon, with the fresh appointment of Pargat Singh as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, who is also a former Indian hockey captain.
Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot welcomed the appointment of Olympian Pargat Singh as the new president of the Punjab Congress, stating that the party is gearing up to launch its campaign in the state soon.
Speaking to reporters here, Pilot described Pargat Singh as a widely respected sports figure and a national icon whose leadership would strengthen the party's grassroots base in Punjab.
"The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed a new president. Pargat Singh, who is a well-known sportsman and Olympian, has been the captain of the Indian hockey team and is also a national icon. The party has entrusted him with this key responsibility," Pilot said.
Highlighting the party's upcoming roadmap, Pilot revealed that the leadership is set to travel to Punjab to formally kick-start its political outreach.
"Very soon, I think we will go there and launch our campaign, and within the next few days, we will visit Punjab and Chandigarh," the Congress leader added.
"Certainly, we are making a program for Rahul Gandhi to visit Punjab," he stated.
Earlier on October 4, Congress leader and Punjab Congress incharge Sachin Pilot alleged that the law and order situation in Punjab had completely collapsed under the Bhagwant Mann government.
He also expressed confidence that the Congress would form the government in the state with a comfortable majority in the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, Pilot said, "...Gangsters are openly firing shots in Punjab, encounters are taking place, and individuals operating from within jails are demanding extortion money. Law and order there has completely collapsed. Deadly drugs are being delivered to homes via orders placed over the phone. The Bhagwant Mann government has completely failed to handle the situation... I am confident that we will form the government in Punjab with a comfortable majority."
Earlier, Pilot participated in a victory rally held to celebrate Mayank Goyal becoming the Chairperson of the Tonk Municipal Council.
