Punjab: Police arrest three suspected BKI operatives, recover explosives and arms

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 24 : Chandigarh Police on Saturday registered an FIR under Sections 4(b) and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Police Station 36, on the basis of specific intelligence regarding the movement of suspected operatives associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in Chandigarh.
Acting on the intelligence, a police team apprehended three persons, namely: Lovepreet Singh, aged 19 years; Jashanpreet Singh @ Jashandeep, aged 21 years; and Prabhpreet Singh @ Prabh, aged 19 years.
During the operation, the following items were recovered: Approximately 5 kg of gelatin stick explosives, one detonator, a power source and a remotely operated system, one pistol and one magazine, and five live cartridges.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused persons had allegedly come in contact with Satnam @ Satta Naushera, a foreign-based handler associated with BKI. They were allegedly acting on his directions and had planned to plant an IED in Chandigarh with the intention of creating terror.
The recovery of explosives, triggering components and firearms has been taken into possession as per law.
Further investigation is underway to establish the wider network, source of the explosive material and the role of other associates.
Chandigarh Police said that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and taking firm action against any attempt to disturb peace and public order.
