Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 22 : South actress Vishnu Priya on Friday filed a complaint with police alleging that a YouTube channel has published false and defamatory content about her personal and professional life, a senior police officer said.
According to Detective Inspector (DI) G Ramesh Naidu at Miyapur Police Station under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad, the actress in her complaint sought action against the YouTube channel for allegedly publishing and circulating false, misleading, and damaging content through a video on the platform.
According to her complaint, "The channel created content containing distorted facts, speculative statements, and objectionable commentary intended to provoke public outrage and online harassment," as per Hyderabad Police. Based on her complaint, Miyapur police registered a case invoking Sections 67 and 67(A) of the IT Act.
"Today we received a petition from Vishnu Priya. It read that the facts of the case are that seeking immediate action against the YouTube channel 'Play Like Incognito' for publishing and circulating false, misleading, sensational, and damaging content concerning the petitioner through its video available on YouTube. The concerned channel has deliberately created and published content containing distorted facts, misleading narratives, speculative statements, and objectionable commentary relating to the Petitioner's personal and professional life," said the police official.
"The video has been presented in a manner intended to provoke public outrage, invite online harassment, damage the petitioner's reputation, and malign her image before the public. The content creator, while speaking about the petitioner, has used exaggerated allegations, irresponsible commentary, and unverified claims without any factual basis or supporting evidence. The video further encourages viewers to form negative opinions against the petitioner and has resulted in widespread trolling, abusive comments, online harassment, character attacks, and mental distress. It is highly irresponsible for any digital platform or content creator to circulate unverified and sensational content merely for increasing views, monetisation, and online engagement at the cost of an individual's dignity, privacy, and reputation. The continuous circulation of such false narratives has seriously affected the petitioner's personal reputation, emotional well-being, and professional standing. The video has been widely shared across social media platforms, thereby amplifying the damage caused to the petitioner's public image. Therefore, the petitioner requested to take necessary action in this matter," added the police official.
The Miyapur police, who have acknowledged the complaint, said that they will take action based on the investigation and evidence in the case.
Vishnu Priya is known for her work in South films like 'Rathri Mazha', 'Keralotsavam 2009' 'Puthumugangal Thevai' and others.
