New Delhi [India], July 23 : Congress leader and AICC General Secretary In-Charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday that the party will kick-start a major election campaign for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, while Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said that the dates for the campaign would be announced soon.
Bajwa told reporters "...The campaign (given the Punjab assembly elections) will be launched soon. The dates and venues will be announced soon...The Congress will come back to power in Punjab.."
Baghel said on Wednesday that there will be meetings will be held regularly in view of the polls.
"Today, after the formation of the committee, the first meeting was held...It has been decided that we now have to start the election campaign (for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections). For this, we will seek time from the high command, especially Rahul ji, Kharge Saheb, and Priyanka ji. Depending on when they are available, we will launch a major election campaign. We have both options before us. There can either be a yatra or public meetings. We discussed whether to begin with the yatra along with public meetings or hold rallies first and then start the yatra. These discussions took place today, and we will meet again in the coming days. There will be continuous meetings..."
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa told reporters that the Congress is "united" and will form the government in Punjab.
Earlier in the month, amid differences in the Punjab Congress, Bhupesh Baghel submitted his report to KC Venugopal, General Secretary (Organization) of the party.
According to sources, the report suggests retaining Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as the state president, noting that 25 out of 29 district presidents and four out of seven MPs from Punjab support him.
AAP, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal have also geared up their preparations for the Punjab assembly polls.
