Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 8 : Telangana Congress leader Motha Rohit on Tuesday defended the arrest of BRS MLCs T Madhusudhan Rao alias Tata Madhu and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, saying the action was justified over their alleged remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
He said the Congress government had taken the right step by arresting Madhu, whom he accused of insulting a Dalit Speaker.
He also said the Congress would organise a protest at Gandhi Bhavan demanding the resignation of Tata Madhu.
Speaking to ANI, Rohit said, "I would like to question KCR and KTR. How can you call it an illegal arrest? You should welcome this arrest... BRS has a long history of insulting Dalits... Congress party and the Congress government have done the right thing by arresting Madhu, who has insulted a Dalit speaker... We are organising a massive protest today in Gandhi Bhavan demanding the resignation of Tata Madhu."
Meanwhile, BRS leader Dasoju Sravan Kumar accused the Telangana government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of using force against BRS leaders and workers during protests.
He alleged that police personnel, marshals and unidentified persons in civil dress obstructed and assaulted BRS protesters.
He further alleged that women MLAs were manhandled during the incident.
"Revanth Reddy has not only spoken about his admiration for Hitler, but he's also implementing Hitler's ideals and administrative procedures in Telangana... The timid government used police muzzle, marshal's muzzle and unidentified civil-dressed goons not only to obstruct BRS protestors but also to beat them up,” Kumar said.
Sravan Kumar also alleged that the government was conspiring to remove Tata Madhu from the Legislative Council.
“The government is conspiring to expel Tata Madhu from the council... Women MLAs were dragged down by their hair, their saris were pulled, they were throttled... Revanth Reddy is running this government like Hitler. I appeal to Rahul Gandhi to intervene... If this is the fate of MLAs and MLCs, what will be the fate of a common man?” he further said.
BRS Legal Cell advocate Kakkla Laxman said the Saifabad police had violated fundamental rights, the Constitution, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and High Court judgments in detaining the two MLCs.
"The Saifabad police clearly violated the fundamental rights, the Constitution, the BNS, and High Court judgments... We will challenge the detention of Naveen Reddy and Tata Madhu,” Laxman told ANI.
The remarks came after the arrest of BRS MLCs T Madhusudhan Rao alias Tata Madhu and N Naveen Kumar Reddy over their alleged remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
