Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 26 : As a prelude to the celebration of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army units of Spear Corps and Assam Rifles at Agartala, organised a series of patriotic and community outreach events at the Albert Ekka War Memorial to honour the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Vijay (1999).
The commemorative event witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, students, veterans, Veer Naris and members of the civil administration. The programme commenced with soulful performances by the Army Symphony Band, which presented patriotic musical renditions, setting the tone for an evening dedicated to the nation's heroes.
Various patriotic cultural performances by artists from the Government of Tripura paid tribute to the courage and indomitable spirit of the Indian Armed Forces. A spectacular Pipe Band display by 21 Sector Assam Rifles further captivated the audience and showcased the rich military traditions, precision and discipline of India's Armed Forces.
A specially curated documentary on Operation Vijay was screened, highlighting the extraordinary courage, determination and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the Kargil conflict. Informative display boards showcasing the timeline, key battles, gallantry award winners and significant milestones of the operation were exhibited to educate and inspire the younger generation and the people of Tripura about the unparalleled valour displayed by the Indian Army in defending the nation's sovereignty.
To encourage greater awareness among the youth, an interactive Kargil Quiz Contest was organised for students. The participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and knowledge of India's military history, making the event both educational and inspiring.
As part of the outreach initiative, a Medical Camp was organised at Military Hospital, Agartala, exclusively for veterans, Veer Naris and Next of Kin (NoKs). Specialist doctors from various disciplines provided expert medical consultations, health screening and healthcare advice, reaffirming the Indian Army's unwavering commitment towards the welfare of its veterans and their families.
The commemorative events served as a befitting tribute to the bravehearts of the Kargil War and reinforced the enduring message of patriotism, national unity and gratitude towards the Armed Forces. But they underestimated the will of a nation. India responded with Operation Vijay, a mission that combined meticulous planning, steely determination, and the indomitable spirit of its soldiers. For more than two months, our forces fought inch by inch across the harshest terrain, until every intruder was driven out and every post restored to Indian control.
