Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 11 : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday highlighted several major projects in the state, including a Rs 15,000 crore project, a Rs 600 crore Amul facility and a robotic fire-fighting system, saying significant progress had been witnessed over the last four months.
“In the last four months, we have seen significant projects; for instance, there was a major commitment of Rs 700 crore for a project in Gangoni. A massive project worth Rs 15,000 crore has also commenced,” Adhikari said.
He said work was also progressing on a robotic fire-fighting system that could operate in areas where conventional fire tenders could not reach.
“We are seeing progress on projects like the robotic fire-fighting system, which can operate where large fire trucks cannot,” the Chief Minister said.
Adhikari further highlighted an Amul project involving an investment of Rs 600 crore, saying work had already commenced on the facility.
“A third major project involves Amul, with an investment of ₹600 crore. Work has already started, and a large facility is being constructed,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said a major data centre by L&T had been inaugurated and that the Cabinet had already cleared the project.
“We inaugurated a major data centre by L&T; the Cabinet has already cleared this project,” Adhikari said.
Adhikari made the remarks while attending the ‘Fashion Wardrobe’ event at Style Bazaar near Salt Lake City Centre in Kolkata, along with Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta.
His remarks came amid the political focus on West Bengal's upcoming Assembly bypolls, including the Nandigram seat, where voting is scheduled for October 6, and counting of votes will take place on October 9.
The Nandigram seat fell vacant after Adhikari, who won both Nandigram and Bhabanipur in the Assembly elections, chose to retain Bhabanipur.
Earlier, Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir said people in Nandigram had a special connection with Adhikari and predicted that “his candidate will win” if former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contests from the constituency.
West Bengal Congress president Shubhankar Sarkar, meanwhile, criticised the state government over the alleged lack of development in Nandigram and said the Chief Minister should have retained the seat.
The Election Commission has scheduled bypolls in vacant Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, along with a Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, for October 6, with counting on October 9.
