Delhi govt fully alert over Lumpy skin disease; vaccination campaign underway: Minister Kapil Mishra

New Delhi [India], August 19 : Delhi Development Minister Kapil Mishra stated that the Delhi government is fully alert regarding the situation of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in animals across the city.
According to the release, the Animal Husbandry unit under the Development Department is continuously monitoring the disease status in the National Capital Region (NCR). This year, only sporadic cases of LSD have been reported in Delhi.
Kapil Mishra shared this information on Wednesday following a review meeting with the Development Commissioner and the Director of the Animal Husbandry Department.
The Development Minister said that the Delhi government is taking all necessary steps to protect animals from Lumpy Skin Disease and to prevent its spread. Effective measures for the prevention and control of the disease are being implemented in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
Kapil Mishra informed that the vaccination campaign against Lumpy Skin Disease is ongoing in Delhi. The government is making every effort to ensure that an adequate supply of LSD vaccines is available in all veterinary hospitals and dispensaries under the NCR, so that animals can be vaccinated in a timely manner.
Appealing to all cattle owners, Kapil Mishra urged them to ensure their animals are vaccinated against LSD and to provide full cooperation to the veterinary teams during the vaccination drive. He also requested cattle owners to keep a close watch on the health of their livestock and to immediately contact the nearest government veterinary hospital or dispensary if any suspicious symptoms are observed.
The Development Minister advised that if any animal shows symptoms of the disease or if an infection is suspected, it should be immediately isolated from other animals and kept in a safe place, and a veterinarian should be consulted promptly.
The Development Minister emphasised that the Delhi government's objective is to ensure the health and safety of livestock and to effectively control the potential spread of the disease. The government is constantly monitoring the situation, and all necessary steps will be taken as required.
