Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 30 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana president N Ramchander Rao on Friday criticised the Congress over its proposed protest at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, calling it a "political drama" and alleging that the party was spreading false narratives about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Speaking to ANI, Rao said that the Congress was attempting to create a narrative that people were being prevented from travelling to Delhi to participate in the protest, asserting that no one was stopping them from attending the programme.
"The Congress is not confident of gathering people in Delhi. So they are now trying to build up a false, concocted story that people are being stopped. No one will stop these people. Wherever they want to go, they can go. But the only problem is that they are spreading false narratives and false theories in the public," he said.
Questioning the Congress' allegations over SIR, Rao claimed that the exercise had been conducted properly and referred to remarks by a Congress minister in Karnataka.
"The SIR and the removal of the ECI are both a non-issue for the people of this country. SIR has been conducted properly... Congress minister in Karnataka himself said that there is no deletion in the SIR, and the SIR took place properly... Why did the Congress party try to blame the Election Commission of India?" he said.
Describing the proposed gathering at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 as a political exercise, the BJP leader alleged that the Congress was attempting to undermine constitutional institutions.
"This Ramlila Maidan program is only a political drama. It does not have people's support. It is only to defame the constitutional institutions like the ECI and the Supreme Court... Rahul Gandhi and his team, Mallikarjun Kharge and others, have become anarchist forces in the country," Rao said.
Meanwhile, on the call of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), several Congress workers from Husnabad in Telangana's Siddipet district left for Delhi by bus to participate in the INDIA bloc protest against the Election Commission and the BJP at Ramlila Maidan.
