Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 22 : The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), headed by Justice Shameem Akther, Chairperson, has taken cognizance of an online complaint filed by Sreshta, alleging that a policeman assaulted a woman and dragged her by her hair near Hafeezpet Railway Station on September 18, 2026.
According to the complaint, a video circulated on social media purportedly showed a policeman beating a woman and dragging her by her hair, while members of the public were allegedly seen pleading with him to leave the woman.
The complaint further stated that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) had conducted an enquiry into the incident and identified the person seen in the video as a Home Guard of the Telangana State Police, who had been deputed for duty at Hafeezpet Railway Station.
According to the release, the Commission observed that the allegations are serious in nature and, if established, raise concerns regarding the decency, dignity and fundamental human rights of the victim, including the right to life, personal liberty and dignity guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
The Commission has accordingly directed the office to call for a detailed report from the Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, on the allegations and the action taken in the matter.
The matter has been posted for November 17, 2026 for submission of the report.
