"These results are a mirror": Imran Masood slams govt over electoral rolls, corporate cronyism

Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 29 : Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Imran Masood on Thursday accused the Union government of orchestrating internal pressures within industrial houses, manipulating electoral rolls, and protecting corporate crony interests while sidelining systemic accountability.
Addressing shifting corporate dynamics and economic leadership, Masood alleged that government-backed pressures are attempting to reshape traditional corporate structures.
“For the first time in Tata's history, internal strife is taking place, and it is being orchestrated at the behest of the government to accommodate and protect their corporate cronies. Tata has built this nation; Tata hasn't looted it like Adani. Governments came and went, but Tata remained a symbol of trust. Because Tata doesn't engage in sycophancy, they are being targeted. But their time is up. As Rahul ji said, their expiry date has arrived. Poor Nirmala Sitharaman ji knows very little; she can hardly read out a prepared statement properly, so what can she say?” Congress MP Imran Masood told ANI.
Shifting his focus to political setbacks suffered by the ruling party in major strongholds, Masood highlighted the electoral losses and said, “He (The Prime Minister) claimed Congress was reduced to zero, right? But look what happened in Nagpur, the RSS headquarters; they lost that seat. In Patna, their state president lost his seat. In Varanasi, Narendra Modi’s constituency, there were two seats, and they lost both. Did the Chief Minister engineer that defeat? The Chief Minister forcibly secured his own seat through what can only be called the subversion of democracy, while their situation everywhere else was dire.”
Masood pointed to voter mobilisation as the definitive counter to administrative overreach, and added, “These results are a mirror. Even when they use administrative muscle, if people turn out in large numbers, they lose. My advice to voters is simple: if you need 100 votes to win, prepare for 150. Keep the voter turnout significantly high. They operate on a 15–20% manipulation margin; push past that threshold, and they are defeated decisively. Wherever people prepared for this, the BJP collapsed. It requires no complex arithmetic just surge voter turnout by 20%, and they will lose on their own.”
Detailing the evolving nature of electoral malpractice, Masood said, “Their manipulation operates within a 20% bracket; if turnout exceeds that, the opposition wins cleanly. That’s why we are already organising on the ground to push voter participation as high as possible. If turnout goes up, you win; if it dips, you don't. We will focus meticulously on that.”
Reinforcing his strategy for future electoral battles, Masood reiterated that overcoming administrative buffers requires high-margin civic participation and added, “Paper ballots are an old issue now. Today, the manipulation occurs directly on the voter rolls. They are manipulating every layer of the electoral process, leaving nothing untouched. They have crossed all limits in undermining democracy.”
Masood further raised questions regarding cabinet appointments and unaddressed controversies surrounding senior ministers, adding that the country is observing and listening to all of this.
“Why was Hardeep Singh Puri abruptly sent to the Rajya Sabha? Did that file from America resurface, the one linked to photos being circulated? Did someone have that file, leading to his urgent nomination? The country is observing and listening to all of this,” the Congress MP said.
Shifting focus to campus governance and recent friction involving central educational institutions, Masood also issued a stern warning concerning administrative appointments at Jamia Millia Islamia.
“Meanwhile, the administration installed an infamous individual as registrar at Jamia who has ruined the university. He will end up in jail; he won't be spared. Every single file will be scrutinised, and accountability will follow. That notorious individual has systematically harmed Jamia.”
