Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 13 : The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Monday criticised the Andhra Pradesh government over its action against farmers in Undavalli, alleging abuse of power and contempt for the rule of law.
In a statement, the YSRCP National Spokesperson Karthik Yellapragada said the Chandrababu Naidu-led government deployed more than 100 police personnel and bulldozers against 11 marginal farming families in Undavalli.
"The Chandrababu Naidu government's deployment of 100-plus police personnel and bulldozers against 11 marginal farming families in Undavalli is a blatant abuse of power," the statement read.
"Destroying standing crops while the land acquisition matter is actively sub judice before the High Court shows utter contempt for the rule of law. Using weekend raids and unjust compensation to coerce small farmers is unacceptable," the spokesperson further said.
The party further said it stands firmly with the affected farmers and would continue to oppose what it termed "undemocratic tyranny" until justice is delivered.
There was no immediate response from the Andhra Pradesh government to the allegations.
Earlier on July 5, in another series of allegations, YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy attacked the Andhra Pradesh government, accusing it of misusing police machinery to suppress political dissent while allegedly failing to address rising crimes against vulnerable sections of society.
"You (Chandrababu) are pushing the police system down an extremely dangerous path to carry out political repression and silence those who question you. Through the unhealthy practices that have emerged under your rule, you have sown poisonous seeds across the State, and they are gradually taking root and growing into a dangerous culture," the YSRCP chief said.
"When children go missing, there is no urgency in the investigation. When complaints relating to crimes against women are not even registered, there is no response. Even when a tribal woman is stripped and assaulted, there are no arrests. But if someone questions the government on social media, they are met with cases, arrests, custodial torture, and non-bailable charges", he added.
