Chandigarh [India], August 6 : In a bid to bolster security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on August 15, the Chandigarh Police on Thursday convened a meeting of the Tri-City Coordination Committee with senior police officers from neighbouring districts to review the law and order situation and enhance inter-state intelligence sharing.
The meeting, chaired by the Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh Sagar Preet Hooda, was held at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters in Sector 9. Senior officers from Panchkula, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Rupnagar (Ropar) and Solan, along with IPS officers of Chandigarh Police, attended the meeting to assess the prevailing security scenario and discuss coordinated measures for the upcoming national celebrations.
A key decision taken during the meeting was to establish joint inter-state border nakas between Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to strengthen surveillance and curb the movement of anti-social elements. The participating police agencies also resolved to intensify checks at hotels, guest houses and sarais, besides carrying out comprehensive tenant and domestic servant verification drives.
The officers agreed to ensure real-time sharing of intelligence related to protests, dharnas, agitation programmes and other activities of various organisations. Information concerning stolen vehicles, proclaimed offenders and other criminals will also be exchanged promptly among the participating police units to facilitate swift preventive action.
Special emphasis was laid on maintaining close surveillance over the activities of gangsters and terrorists. The police leadership decided that actionable intelligence regarding organised crime and terrorism would be shared regularly among the states to enable coordinated enforcement and preventive measures.
To institutionalise coordination, the meeting also decided that regular inter-state coordination meetings would be held to review the security situation, improve operational synergy and exchange intelligence inputs and best practices among the police agencies.
The meeting was attended by senior IPS officers, including ADGP (CID Wing) Saurabh Singh, ADGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, IGP (Intelligence) Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, Panchkula Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain, DIG Ropar Range Nanak Singh, Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, Ropar SSP Maninder Singh, Panchkula DCP Aditi Singh and Solan SP Tirumalaraju SD Varma, among others.
