Ghizer [PoGB] August 7 : Residents of Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan's (PoGB) Ghizer district have accused authorities of failing to provide timely assistance after devastating floods destroyed homes, crops and businesses, leaving affected communities struggling to recover.
Speaking from the flood-hit area, residents Ahsan Ali and Mohammad Khan described the scale of destruction and appealed to the government to immediately intervene with relief and rehabilitation measures for the residents across the region.
"We have suffered a lot. We have lost our crops. We have lost our homes," one resident said, urging the Chief Secretary, relevant ministers and the Force Commander to stand with the affected people and help them rebuild their lives in the vulnerable situation.
The residents said the floods had not only damaged residential properties but had also wiped out shops and agricultural land, severely impacting livelihoods in the district. They stated that many families had lost their primary source of income and are now facing an uncertain future.
"We have lost our crops. We have lost our homes. We have lost our shops. Please help us," another resident said, adding that an excavator had been deployed to reconnect damaged roads, but broader relief efforts remained inadequate in a highly critical situation.
According to the residents, the disaster struck early in the morning, catching many people off guard. They said the scale of destruction has left communities vulnerable and in urgent need of government support.
Expressing frustration over what they described as an inadequate official response, the residents said they believe the government has a responsibility to provide justice and assistance to those affected by the disaster
When asked whether any officials had reached out to provide relief, the residents said no meaningful assistance has arrived.
"No, we have not received anything," Mohammad said, indicating that despite the widespread devastation, affected families were still waiting for emergency aid.
