Howrah (West Bengal) [India], October 28 : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday said the West Bengal Cabinet has approved two key decisions aimed at providing relief to victims of the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal stampede that claimed 19 lives.
Speaking at a press conference, Adhikari said that the cabinet has decided to offer permanent Group D government employment to one member of each family affected by the tragic incident.
"The West Bengal Cabinet decided today to provide a permanent Group D job to a member of each family affected by the tragic incident that occurred during our Durga Puja celebrations," he said.
He added that the cabinet also approved an amendment to the School Service Commission (SSC) rules to prohibit newly recruited teachers from actively participating in direct political activities.
"A second decision concerns the recruitment of teachers under this government: teachers will no longer be permitted to participate directly in politics. We are introducing an amendment to the SSC (School Service Commission) recruitment rules to this effect, which the Cabinet has approved today. This decision will not affect teachers currently involved in politics; it will apply only to those recruited in the future under this government," he said.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister also levelled serious financial allegations against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former minister Indranil Sen, alleging suspicious bank transfers worth Rs 30 lakh and asset accumulation spanning decades.
"Rs 30 lakh was transferred from his (former West Bengal Minister Indranil Sen's) account into Mamata Banerjee’s personal account. The CPI(M) groomed Indranil Sen, and Mamata Banerjee further elevated him. He acquired significant assets during the CPI(M)'s tenure, and under Mamata Banerjee’s administration, he built a farmhouse in Hooghly," he said.
"Ask the investigating officer about this. It is not my role to interfere in the investigation. My responsibility is to ensure that the police take action against those for whom there is evidence," he added.
Earlier, the West Bengal government announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a job for the family of each person who lost their life due to the stampede during the festive time.
