Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 31 : The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Monday launched its Force-level mountaineering expedition, codenamed "Parvat Sankalp-2026," to scale the 22,175-foot-high Mount Reo Pargil peak located in the Shipki-La sector.
According to the release, the expedition was officially flagged off during a ceremony held at Sector HQ Shimla by the Chief Guest, Manu Maharaj, IPS, Inspector General of HQ Northern Frontier ITBP, Dehradun.
Prior to flagging off the team, the Inspector General received a detailed briefing on the mission and interacted with the participating climbers.
The 21-day expedition, led by Expedition Leader Vinod Kumar, Deputy Commandant (GD) of the 43 Bn ITBP, comprises a 12-member team of core mountaineers.
Addressing the team, IG Manu Maharaj highlighted that mountaineering serves as a true test of courage, patience, discipline, determination, and team spirit.
He stated that the primary objective of "Parvat Sankalp-2026" is to enhance the operational capabilities and readiness of officers and personnel serving in high-altitude, challenging Himalayan terrain while fostering enthusiasm for adventure sports within the force.
According to the release, Ravi Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of ITBP Sector HQ Shimla, extended his congratulations to the mountaineers, reiterating the force's long-standing tradition of excellence in Himalayan expeditions.
In a post on X, ITBP wrote, "Northern Frontier #ITBP Mountaineering Expedition-2026 'Ojas' to Mt Reo Pargil (22,175 ft) was flagged off by Sh. Manu Maharaaj, IPS, IG, Northern Ftr. Led by DC Vinod Kumar of 43 Bn, the team embarks on a challenging journey of courage, endurance & adventure."

Meanwhile, the President of BJP Himachal Pradesh, Rajeev Bindal, on Monday said the party would launch a month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' across the State from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years of public service and his birthday.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office 'Deep Kamal' in Shimla ahead of a series of party meetings, Rajeev Bindal said Modi would complete 25 years of public service on October 7, having served as Chief Minister of Gujarat and subsequently as Prime Minister of the country.
He said the campaign would begin on PM Modi's birthday on September 17 and seek to encourage people to dedicate themselves to public service and contribute towards the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
