Maruti Suzuki sales rise 24.4% to 2.36 lakh, Tata Motors PV sales jump 15% to 70,210 in September

New Delhi [India], October 1 : Maruti Suzuki India and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported higher sales in September, with Maruti Suzuki's total sales rising 24.4 per cent year-on-year to 2,36,013 units, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles' total sales increased 15 per cent to 70,210 units, supported by strong domestic demand and continued momentum in electric vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki's total sales in September comprised 1,85,252 domestic sales, 6,542 units sold to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 44,219 export units.
The company's domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,81,838 units in September. Within this, sales of mini, compact and mid-size passenger cars stood at 91,887 units, while utility vehicle sales were at 78,911 units. Van sales stood at 11,040 units.
Including light commercial vehicles, Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales stood at 1,85,252 units, while sales to other OEMs stood at 6,542 units during the month. Exports stood at 44,219 units.
For the April-September period of financial year 2026-27, Maruti Suzuki's total sales stood at 13,79,378 units, including 11,00,260 domestic sales including light commercial vehicles, 46,263 units sold to other OEMs and 2,32,855 export units.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded 70,210 units in total sales across domestic and international markets in September 2026, up 15 per cent from 60,907 units in the year-ago month. Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 15 per cent to 68,810 units, while international business sales increased 13 per cent to 1,400 units.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles' electric vehicle sales, including domestic and international markets, rose sharply by 67 per cent year-on-year to 15,384 units in September, compared with 9,191 units a year earlier.
For Q2 FY27, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded total sales of 2,01,723 units, up 40 per cent from 1,44,397 units in Q2 FY26. Domestic sales increased 40 per cent to 1,96,674 units, while international business rose 20 per cent to 5,049 units.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra said passenger vehicle demand had sustained momentum following GST 2.0, with industry Vahan volumes growing around 24 per cent year-on-year. He said the company entered the festive season with a strong order book and healthy customer traction.
Chandra said electric vehicles recorded their highest-ever quarterly sales of more than 47,000 units, growing 90 per cent year-on-year, while EV penetration in the company's portfolio rose to 23 per cent. CNG accounted for 28 per cent of quarterly volumes, taking the combined contribution of EV and CNG vehicles to 51 per cent.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said it remained optimistic about the festive season, supported by a strong order book and healthy customer traction, and would progressively scale up production to cater to demand.
