Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 7 : Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Tuesday questioned leader of the oppositon in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on his allegations regarding irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asking on what grounds he is seeking the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Nagendran was speaking to reporters at Tiruchirappalli airport after arriving from Chennai to attend an event at the RSS office in the city.
“On what grounds is Rahul Gandhi seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar? I do not understand what complaint he has made or why he is making such allegations,” Nagendran said.
He questioned whether Gandhi was concerned about giving “a life” to people living abroad and said he was unable to understand the reason behind the Congress leader’s statements.
“There are no SIR-related irregularities in Keralam, which is ruled by the Congress. If that is the case, how can Rahul Gandhi allege that irregularities are taking place only in BJP-ruled states?” he asked.
Nagendran said Rahul Gandhi had travelled abroad after the Bihar elections and began making such allegations immediately after returning.
“If there had been irregularities in the SIR exercise, we (BJP) should have won. But Keralam minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that we won because of the SIR exercise,” he claimed.
On the political situation in Tamil Nadu following the recent by-election, Nagendran said it was not possible to predict the state’s political future at this stage. However, he claimed that there was growing dissatisfaction among people with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
On the power situation in Tamil Nadu, Nagendran questioned what steps the state government was planning to take to address the prevailing power cuts.
“What solution are they going to find for the power cuts in Tamil Nadu? No review meetings have been held in this regard. If meetings have been held, it would be better if appropriate action is taken,” he said.
Nagendran alleged that the present government was following the same approach adopted by the previous government instead of taking effective measures to address the issues.
Tiruchirappalli district BJP president Ondimuthu and other party functionaries were present during the interaction.
