Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 31 : The Punjagutta Police in Telangana have registered an FIR against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former MLA Rega Kantha Rao following a complaint by a woman alleging sexual exploitation, cheating and blackmail, according to the FIR.
According to the FIR copy, a petition was received on July 26 at 1 pm from a 22-year-old woman residing in Durga Nagar Colony, Somajiguda. The complainant, a native of Yellandu in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, stated that she works in the media sector.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she first met the former MLA in 2022, when she was 18 years old, during an interview. She alleged that he later called her to a private flat on the pretext of launching a new YouTube channel and entered into a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.
The complainant further alleged that they cohabited in a flat owned by an actor identified as Sanjosh in Ameerpet, under the jurisdiction of Punjagutta Police Station, and later at Shubham Apartments till mid-2025. She alleged that the former MLA took her private photographs and used them to blackmail her after she refused to meet him.
She also alleged that the former MLA took Rs 4 lakh from her in the name of investing in real estate, promising to return double the amount, but later began avoiding her.
The complainant further alleged that in May 2024, he accessed her mobile phone and contacted her friend, Lakshmi Padaala. She also alleged that during February and March 2026, while she was facing health and financial difficulties, her relative Anjali introduced her to Guntaka Praveen, whom she described as the former MLA's social media handler.
She further alleged that Nookarapu Ramesh, whom she described as a close associate and contractor, transferred Rs 5 lakh to her on March 16 and Rs 3.5 lakh on March 18.
Based on the complaint, Panjagutta Police registered FIR No. 589/2026 under Sections 69 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector P Narasinga Rao for further probe, according to the FIR.
