Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 27 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Himachal Pradesh till August 2, urging people to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel as the monsoon remains active across the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, widespread rainfall was recorded across several districts during the past 24 hours, with Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu and Kangra witnessing significant precipitation. Khandaghat in Solan district recorded one of the highest rainfall totals during the period.
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist, IMD Shimla, said active monsoon conditions are expected to continue, with spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in several districts.
"During the past 24 hours, widespread rainfall has occurred in districts including Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu and Kangra. Khandaghat recorded one of the highest rains. The monsoon remains active and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places over the next few days," Sharma said.
He said the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for different districts depending on the expected intensity of rainfall and warned that the weather conditions could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, waterlogging and a rise in water levels of rivers and streams, particularly in vulnerable and mountainous areas.
Sharma advised residents and tourists to remain updated with official weather forecasts and follow advisories issued by the IMD and district administrations.
"We advise people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, especially in landslide-prone areas. Tourists and local residents should closely monitor weather updates and follow all official advisories to ensure their safety," he said.
The IMD has also cautioned that heavy rainfall may disrupt road connectivity, affect essential services and increase the risk of slope failures in vulnerable locations.
Authorities have urged district administrations to remain on alert and take all necessary precautionary measures as the active monsoon phase is expected to persist over Himachal Pradesh during the coming days.
The Himachal Pradesh government has also urged residents and tourists to follow weather advisories.
